Man accused of hitting woman with fire extinguisher after breaking into home

MOUNT PLEASANT TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A Mount Pleasant Township man is facing charges after he allegedly physically assaulted a woman with a fire extinguisher during a home invasion, according to Channel 11’s news partners at

Authorities said Shawn Douglas Povlik, 25, kicked in the front door of his grandmother’s home in Mount Pleasant Township at 2 a.m. Monday and attacked a woman who was staying there, police said in an affidavit of probable cause obtained by

. He allegedly punched the woman, hit her on the head with the fire extinguisher and sprayed her with its contents.

The woman was hospitalized. The extent of her injuries was unknown.

Povlik fled the scene before officers arrived, but police said they located him in a car not far away in possession of 10 prescription pills,

reported.

He was charged with aggravated assault, burglary, drug possession, simple assault, possession of drug paraphernalia, criminal mischief and harassment. Povlik was being held in the Westmoreland County Prison on $10,000 bail. A Jan. 5 preliminary hearing is set.
