Man killed, woman hurt after ATV accident in Moon

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. — One man is dead and a woman injured after an all-terrain vehicle accident in Moon Township.

Police were called to the scene behind the Valley Ambulance Service near the Sewickley Bridge and University Blvd. at about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Ryan Eckelberry, 32, of Coraopolis has been identified as the man who died after being thrown from the ATV when it hit a pole.

Police said the 48-year-old woman who was riding with him was not seriously hurt and was treated at a hospital.

Her name has not been released.

An emergency medical technician who was headed to work heard screaming coming from the nearby railroad tracks.

"She heard someone screaming behind the building and she investigated and found a woman injured," Moon Township Police Chief Leo McCarthy said.

"She said she was in a crash on an ATV with a male friend and he was down the tracks somewhere and unconscious.”

Both Eckelberry and the woman were wearing helmets. Police said they had been drinking earlier that night.

"They found that his alcohol was above the legal limit,” McCarthy said.
