Mayor Didn't Know Coraopolis Cop Was Roethlisberger Bodyguard

CORAOPOLIS, Pa.,None — A second bodyguard to Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger could be facing disciplinary action by the Coraopolis mayor.

Mayor John Haberland told Channel 11 News reporter Alan Jennings on Thursday that he has asked the borough solicitor to review the 560-page Georgia State Police report on sexual assault allegations against Roethlisberger.

A 20-year-old Georgia college student claimed Roethlisberger sexually assaulted her early March 5 in a second-floor employees' bathroom at the Capital City nightclub in Milledgeville, Ga.

Roethlisberger was not charged. The district attorney for Baldwin County, where the club is located, said he didn't have enough evidence to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt.

Some witnesses claim Coraopolis Police Officer Anthony Barravecchio, as one of Roethlisberger's bodyguards, led the accuser to the bathroom.

"I didn't know he was working for Ben," Haberland told Jennings Thursday. "We should have known about it. … The incident in Georgia -- it's troubling as far as I am concerned."

Haberland said he plans to call a special session of the borough council to discuss Barravecchio's trip to Georgia.

Barravecchio's attorney said his client has done nothing wrong.

On Wednesday, state police sanctioned state Trooper Ed Joyner, known as Roethlisberger's other bodyguard at the night club.

Joyner's work for Roethlisberger exceeded the scope of what was permitted, spokeswoman Lt. Myra Taylor said. The trooper also "is alleged to have demeaned the image" of the state police, she said.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announced on Wednesday that Roethlisberger will be suspended for six games without pay for violating the league's personal conduct policy.

Roethlisberger also must undergo a "comprehensive behavioral evaluation by medical professionals." The suspension could be reduced to four games for good behavior after the behavioral evaluation is completed. Sitting out all six games would cost him an estimated $2.8 million.
