MCKEESPORT, Pa. — Over the next six years, $3 million worth of improvements and revitalization are on track to help a local area’s downtown commercial district that many had felt was left behind.
State leaders and the Mayor of McKeesport said part of that money will also go toward keeping low-income families in their homes.

“If you had asked me two years ago what the vision was for the downtown area, I would never have thought we’d be sitting here seeing the progress we’re having,” said Mayor Michael Cherepko.
The investment plan includes public and private money. The plan involves buying up several shuttered buildings and demolishing them to make way for new businesses.
Mayor Cherepko said he is optimistic about the new plan and that better days really do lie ahead for downtown McKeesport.
