National Peanut Butter Lovers Day celebrates just how delicious it is

PITTSBURGH — Whipped, creamy, chunky, in ice cream, on a sandwich, straight out of the jar: the peanut butter possibilities are seemingly endless.

If it really gets your goober going, March 1 is National Peanut Butter Lovers Day!

It’s a day to celebrate just how delicious the concoction can be. First started in 1990, the day commemorates the anniversary of when peanut butter was first sold in the U.S.

Here are some facts provided by one website about peanut butter:

  • It takes about 540 peanuts to make a 12-ounce jar of peanut butter.
  • C.H. Sumner first sold peanut butter in the United States at the Universal Exposition in St. Louis. He sold $705.11 of the “new treat” at his concession stand.
