At least two newspapers have said "nope" to the two traditional political parties and have endorsed Libertarian Gary Johnson for president.
Just weeks before the upcoming presidential election, the Chicago Tribune Editorial Board has decided to forgo the Democratic and Republican parties, choosing instead to endorse a third-party candidate, according to

Arguing Donald Trump is “not fit to be president of the United States” and citing “serious questions about honesty and trust” with Hillary Clinton, the Tribune announced Friday that it has endorsed Johnson for president.
“We hope Johnson does well enough that Republicans and Democrats get the message — and that his ideas make progress over time,” the Chicago Tribune Editorial Board wrote. “This year neither major party presents a good option. So the Chicago Tribune today endorses Libertarian Gary Johnson for president of the United States. Every American who casts a vote for him is standing for principles — and can be proud of that vote. Yes, proud of a candidate in 2016.”

The Detroit News also endorsed Johnson, the first time in its 143-year history that the paper endorsed a candidate that was not a Republican.
In the endorsement, the Detroit News said:
Donald Trump is unprincipled, unstable and quite possibly dangerous. He can not be president.His Democratic opponent, Hillary Clinton, has an impressive resume and a presidential bearing. And although we disagree with her nearly across the board on the issues, we acknowledge she has the temperament to be commander-in-chief and leader of both a diverse nation and the free world.But character matters. Her career-long struggles with honesty and ethics and calculating, self-serving approach to politics trouble us deeply.So we find ourselves in the same position as a vast number of voters in looking for an option other than skipping the presidential portion of the ballot.Gary Johnson meets that need. We recognize the Libertarian candidate is the longest of long shots with an electorate that has been conditioned to believe only Republicans and Democrats can win major offices.But this is an endorsement of conscience, reflecting our confidence that Johnson would be a competent and capable president and an honorable one.
