PHILADELPHIA — A Pennsylvania lawmaker plans to introduce legislation that would amend the Liquor Code to allow businesses to apply for extended use permits authorizing the sale of alcohol from 2 a.m. to 4 a.m.

"Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and cities in between are world-class cities of higher education and we need to create an environment where the nightlife encourages young people who become educated here to stay in our Commonwealth to live, work and play," State Representative Jordan Harris (D-Philadelphia) told NBC affiliate WCAU.
The legislation would grant an extended permit license to a business that pays an extra 10 percent of the yearly liquor license fee. Fifty percent of that total would go to the municipality while the rest would go to the state.
Harris’ legislation requires that a public hearing be held by the municipality.
