Police: Burglar Robs Squirrel Hill Bank In Broad Daylight

PITTSBURGH,None — Police are investigating a robbery at a bank in Squirrel Hill on Tuesday afternoon.

Investigators said the robbery happened at a PNC branch on Murray Avenue just before noon.

Police said the man walked into the building and announced to a teller, "Don't move and give me 20s, 50s and 100s. No bait. No alarm."

Investigators said he then went to another teller and said, "Don't move I have a gun."

When a security guard approached the man he again said he had a gun and reached into his jacket. Witnesses said the suspect took off on foot down Murray Avenue onto Loretta Avenue then toward Beechwood Boulevard.

Police said the man got away with an undisclosed amount of cash. Investigators said the man is white and between 22 to 30 years old. He is about 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighs about 160 pounds.

Investigators said he was clean shaven and was wearing black jeans, a black jacket, a black hat, black gloves and black tennis shoes.

The bank was closed following the robbery and customers like Philip Shehady were forced to use an ATM outside.

"The guy just walked in and said there was a bank robbery," Shehady said. "It had to be seconds before I got here."

Jill Sinwell said she wasn't surprised when she found out the suspect robbed the bank in broad daylight.

"It's typical for the holiday season," Sinwell said. "I guess people need money for gifts and drugs, and that's what they do."

No one was hurt. Anyone with information on the robbery is asked to contact police.
