Police dog sniffs out drugs hidden in Twinkies

OKLAHOMA CITY, Oklahoma — When you bite into a Twinkie you expect it to be filled with cream -- but you'll never guess what one Oklahoma officer found inside two Twinkies.

It started as a high-speed traffic stop after an Oklahoma city police officer noticed an out-of-state driver weaving in and out of traffic along Interstate 40.

Sgt. Gary Knight of the Oklahoma City Police Department said, "It was Sunday afternoon when a police officer spotted a car driving down the road. He was swerving (and) appeared to be texting and driving.  The officer stopped him.  Obviously, a dangerous type situation."

The officer didn't know how dangerous, until he enlisted the help of his drug-sniffing dog. The dog searched all around the car and eventually got a hit on a box of Twinkies.  The officer took a closer look and noticed the side had been resealed.  Inside were two Twinkie cakes and five bags of meth.

"The drug dogs are highly trained," Knight said. "They are very good at what they do. When an officer has one of those dogs with them, the dog knows almost immediately if there are drugs present or have been drugs present."

Police arrested 50-year old driver Rodney Walker and his 39-year-old passenger Bernard Reyes.  Both remained in jail on Thursday,  each on a $25,000 bond.
