PITTSBURGH,None — Republican D. Raja and Democrat Rich Fitzgerald will face off in November to replace Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato, who decided not to seek another four-year term after coming up short in his bid for governor last year.
Raja, a software entrepreneur, won the Republican nomination in Tuesday's primary.
The 45-year-old defeated 56-year-old Chuck McCullough, a former county council member and county solicitor.
"Tonight's victory is the next step in a long and difficult journey to bring a new direction to Allegheny County," said Raja. "There's no doubt in my mind that we can win in November and make Allegheny County a destination for opportunity and economic prosperity."

Fitzgerald won the Democratic nomination for Allegheny County executive.
With more than 95 percent of precincts reporting, Fitzgerald had more than 61,000 votes, or about 56 percent of the ballots cast in Tuesday's Democrat primary. He fended off a challenge from county controller Mark Patrick Flaherty, who had 47,590 votes -- about 44 percent.
"This was a heck of a victory. I feel like Jimmy Stewart in the movie 'It's a Wonderful Life.' It was exhilarating to have so many good friends who stood with me and behind me in this endeavor," said Fitzgerald.
