PITTSBURGH,None — The Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium's 28-year-old Kodiak bear, Rocky, has passed away.
Zoo officials said Rocky suffered from severe arthritis in multiple joints and had nerve abnormalities and decreased ability to use his rear limbs, causing him constant pain.
Over the past several months, despite efforts from the zoo's veterinary staff, Rocky's health declined the past several months and he was put down on Wednesday with his keeper, Mo Brown, by his side.
Rocky had been at the Pittsburgh zoo since he was 1.
