ROBBINSDALE, MINNESOTA — A Minnesota high school coach is turning his athletes into sharp-dressed men.
The former Vikings player believes how you dress can lead to success 'on and off' the field.
Slowly but surely more shirts and ties are filling the hallways at Robbinsdale Cooper High School. Head football coach and former Viking Willie Howard originally started the "Dress for Success" program for his team - but it's quickly spreading.
"Just changing the way they dress has changed the way they think about themselves and their self confidence," says Coach Howard.
Isaac Amoussou, a junior, agrees the culture is changing at the school: "some teachers even tell me like when you're talking down the hallway you look like you have a purpose you look like you have goals that you want to achieve."
Every Monday and Wednesday students on board wear a shirt, tie and slacks.
A
was started to help supply shirts and ties to students who can't afford them.
So far it's raised nearly five thousand dollars.
"Hopefully this movement will allow the brightness and the genuine personalities that we have at Cooper to really shine," says Coach Howard. Furthermore, he says there are discussions to spread the "Dress for Success" program to other schools within the district.
