PITTSBURGH,None — At least three packages were taken by two men who followed a UPS truck as it made deliveries on Pittsburgh's North Side.
Surveillance video shows a UPS driver on Garfield Street making deliveries, unaware that he was being shadowed.
Minutes later, a man walked up to a home, opened the vestibule door and walked off with the UPS box, authorities said.
The thief got into a silver Chevrolet Cobalt and drove to the next delivery stop, police said.
On nearby Hodgkiss Street, police said another neighbor almost had his delivery stolen.
"He was home. He saw a vehicle pull up after the UPS driver had left. He felt it was suspicious, because there were two people in the car that kept looking at his porch," said Sgt. Christina Davison. "When they saw him, they conversed and then left."
Police hope surveillance cameras in the neighborhood will help them identify the two men, who appear to be in their 20s.
A UPS representative said drivers are trained to leave packages in places that are out of sight from the street, but there's no defense against a person following the truck.
One victim said he requested a signature be required for his delivery, but he claims that didn't happen, so UPS will replace his package.
"This guy is just ruining everybody's Christmas by taking packages coming in from friends and relatives," another victim said.
Police said they believe there are more victims who don't yet realize their packages were stolen.
