PITTSBURGH — There are three new African lions at the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium!

The pride consists of a 2-year-old male and a pair of 2-year-old females, the zoo announced Monday.

For now, the lions are spending time in the Animal Care Center so they can adjust to their new environment and become acquainted with the animal care specialists.

“We are so excited to introduce these three new African lions to our visitors,” President & CEO Dr. Barbara Baker said. “With the arrival of this new pride comes the opportunity to have cubs in the future, which will help to sustain the managed lion population in the U.S. and continue to help conserve this vulnerable species.”

Baker said the zoo needs to renovate its current lion exhibit now that there’s a possibility of future cubs.

The public is being asked to donate to the new lion exhibit (CLICK HERE).
