PITTSBURGH — It’s the final weekend of June. Here are some ideas for things to do!
Carrie Blast Drive-in
Carrie Carpool Cinema at the Carrie Blast Furnaces will host baseball films this weekend. “A League of Their Own,” about women’s professional baseball, is being shown at 9:30 p.m. on Friday. “The Bingo Long Traveling All-Stars & Motor Kings,” a story of the Negro baseball league, plays at 9:30 p.m. on Saturday. Mini-tours of the Carrie Blast Furnaces on the Swissvale/Rankin border are available before the shows.
History Uncorked
The Senator John Heinz History Center in the Strip District will host “History Uncorked” from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday. The 23rd annual event for young professionals offers both in-person and virtual choices. This year’s theme is a “Night at the Museum.”

Concert for Mr. Smalls
A benefit concert to help Mr. Smalls Theatre in Millvale will be held at 6 p.m. on Sunday. The show will feature local, regional and national performers, some from their homes and studios, and some from the stage at Mr. Smalls. The theater has been closed for more than a year because of the pandemic.
Allegheny Overlook
The grand opening of the Allegheny Overlook, Downtown, began Thursday and continues Friday and Saturday evenings. The pop-up park located on Fort Duquesne Boulevard will host free live music. On Friday, Bindley Hardware Co., a “Rust-Belt Americana” band, will perform. Opening for the group will be West Virginia singer-songwriter William Matheny.
Pittsburgh hip-hop artist Jordan Montgomery and Sierra Sellers will take the stage on Saturday.
There will be food and beverages for sale.
FestivalAFRICANA
“FestivalAFRICANA: Rwanda,” a celebration of Black beauty through fashion, culture and social justice, will be held with an in-person event Friday and online programming Saturday and Sunday.
The series is produced by Pittsburgh-based FashionAFRICANA with MoonLook from France and Illume Creative Studio from Rwanda. The virtual celebration begins at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. A kickoff in-person event is from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Friday at the Grable Visitor Center at The Frick Pittsburgh.
A film will be shown on the FestivalAFRICANA website from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday that showcases Rwanda through fashion designers, artists, arts producers, as well as a performance by a Grammy-nominated jazz vocalist.
Programming will be rebroadcast from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. The event series premiered in 2020 with an online spotlight on Ghana.
