All Butler Transit Authority bus routes suddenly shut down after drivers got sick

BUTLER, Pa. — Nearly all of the drivers with Butler Transit Authority have been out sick. One of them passed away due to COVID-19 complications.

Last week, all the bus routes suddenly shut down in the middle of day because of the lack of drivers.

Transit authority executive director John Paul told Channel 11 he couldn’t confirm if all of the sick drivers tested positive for COVID-19, but he said at least three of them should be back to work this week. That means some local routes will be finally be back in service.

Paul said the driver who died was 38-years-old and will be missed by everyone.

“It is really sad and he was a great young man and he was a great driver, great individual and we are very sorry for his passing,” Paul said.

Channel 11 talked with one man who said he’s very thankful the buses will be back in service because he’s had to walk hours to get where he needs to go.

“It would take me two hours to walk roughly with most of it being uphill,” said Ash Scott.
