Amazon looking to hire hundreds of people at brand new facility

FINDLAY TWP., Pa. — Mega-retailer Amazon is looking to hire about 1,000 people at its Pittsburgh-based facilities, including up to 500 at its brand-new location in Findlay Township.

“We are looking for anyone who is passionate and energetic,” said Justin Acierno, Site Leader at the new PIT9 facility, which just opened its doors last week.

Acierno said they are looking for hourly part and full time employees, with the average hourly wage ranging from $18 to $22 an hour, plus benefits. New hires are also eligible for a $3,000 sign-on bonus and the Career Choice Program, wherein Amazon will pay for a portion of an employee’s outside education.

Tuesday, Channel 11 got a tour of the PIT9 facility, which serves as a “sort center.” Packages from the company’s fulfillment center are brought there as an “intermediary” location to be sorted for the final step of delivery.

A number of different positions are available, with training offered on-site.

There is currently no COVID testing or vaccine requirement on-site, but employees are required to wear masks. Social distancing can easily be achieved in the large facility, Acierno said, and there is a ‘climate-controlled atmosphere’ to ensure fresh air is being cycled through the building.

The application process could take a few weeks. The hope is to fill positions at PIT9 by mid-October.
