WEST WHEATFIELD TWP. — A Clearfield County man is facing charges in Indiana County after police say he shot at a passing vehicle on Saturday.

Elijah Nicklas Helmick, 23, of Osceola Mills, was charged with aggravated assault, propulsion of missiles into an occupied vehicle or onto a roadway, and possessing instruments of crime. He was arraigned Sunday and is being held in the Indiana County Jail on $50,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 21.

Pennsylvania State Police say Helmick fired a single shot from a 9 mm handgun at a vehicle being driven by a Derry woman on Route 22 westbound in West Wheatfield Township. The vehicle also had several passengers, including two children.

The bullet was found lodged in the driver’s side rear door just under the window. No injuries were reported.

Police said those in the two vehicle did not know each other, and the shooting was a result of an encounter a short time earlier on Route 22 westbound in Cambria County that involved a traffic violation and a bottle or bottles being thrown from one vehicle at another.
