Community rallies together after fire displaces Allegheny County family the day after Thanksgiving

MCKEES ROCKS, Pa. — Emergency crews quickly surrounded a home on Valley Street in Stowe Township after receiving a call about a home on fire early Friday morning.

Four people were rescued and there were two injuries.

The family lost everything, including their pet dog.

However, they say the fire could’ve been a lot worse.

Lavar Bates and his little sister Jahstyce lost all of their clothes, shoes and Christmas decorations in the fire.

Their mom and five-year-old sister were downstairs and also made it out safely.

Sto-Rox High School basketball coach Kerry Connolly coaches Jahstyce and is helping organize clothing donations for the family.

Students at Sto-Rox High School started a GoFundMe campaign to help the family (CLICK HERE).

Donations are also being accepted through Cash App ($jahstyceb) and Venmo (@awnesty-bates).
