OCEAN CITY, Md. — It’s not just restaurants, bars and stores that are having trouble filling job openings. Right now, there aren’t enough drivers for the boardwalk tram in Ocean City, Maryland.

According to The Dispatch, only about half of the staff needed have been hired so far. The tram didn’t run at all last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but it is scheduled to return to service Memorial Day weekend.

City officials said they would normally run about 12 trams on any day on the boardwalk before the pandemic. Now, they’ll only be able to run five.

Officials said many drivers from previous years cited boardwalk safety as a major issue for them returning to work, The Dispatch reported.

The boardwalk tram runs the entire length of the boardwalk for $4 per person, per boarding. There is also an $8 unlimited ride pass.
