Driver of stolen vehicle hits passenger as he got out during police pursuit in Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH — When the passenger inside a stolen vehicle tried to get out while police were following them, the driver apparently didn’t wait long enough.

Pittsburgh police said before the man was completely out of the vehicle, the driver sped away, causing the door to strike the passenger in the face.

According to a release, the situation started around 6 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Bedford Avenue and Memory Lane.

Officers saw a stolen vehicle and tried to pull it over in that area. Police said the driver initially stopped but then drove away.

Police started to chase after the stolen car but “quickly decided not to pursue,” according to the release.

The car slowed down near the intersection of Webster Avenue and Wooster Street to let the passenger out, but that man did not get out uninjured.

Officers later detained that passenger and learned he had a warrant for failure to appear in court. He was also in possession of drug paraphernalia.
