Events held around the region mark Veterans Day

PITTSBURGH — The US honors veterans and active-duty military members on Veterans Day every year. This year, it falls on Wednesday.

Here is a list of events being held around the region:

VETS BIKE TOUR – 9 a.m. - Pittsburgh Hires Veterans (PHV) is holding its 1st Annual Veterans Day Bike Tour. The 20-mile tour will include stops at the Southwestern Pennsylvania World War II Memorial, the Korean War Memorial, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and the memorial honoring Medal of Honor Recipient Pfc. John D. Kelly.

PITTSBURGH VETS DAY PARADE – 11 a.m. – The downtown Veterans Day parade is still going on despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

LOWER BURRELL VETERANS PARADE – 11 a.m. – Veterans Day parade in Lower Burrell.

CANONSBURG PAVILION DEDICATION – 12 p.m. – A new pavilion at Canonsburg Town Park will be dedicated in honor of VFW Post 191.

VETERAN MEDALS CEREMONY – 2 p.m. - 93-year-old Dr. Frank Edwards, California University of Pennsylvania Professor Emeritus Sr. will be honored with 11 medals from his service during World War II.

FILL THE HILL – 5:05 p.m. – Luminarias will be lit on the hill of Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall & Museum in Oakland to illuminate the flags on Veterans Day night.
