At a convenience store outside Macon, Ga., just north of the Florida state line, members of The Bridge Church handed out cold bottles of water and snacks on Saturday to people fleeing Hurricane Irma.
Channel 11’s Rick Earle was there to talk to the evacuees and the good Samaritans.

“Providing chips and cookies and just a break,” said Mike Parker. “Saying, ‘We love you guys and we want to help you.’”
Among the people heading northward was Ronnie Escano, who lives on Florida’s Gulf Coast. He packed up his family and left after the storm changed course.
“Running away from the storm,” he said. “We came from Port Charlotte, and we are heading north. Not sure where we are going to land, but we are just trying to stay away from Irma.”
People trying to stay away from Irma packed onto Interstate 75, the main road north from Florida’s Gulf Coast, now ground zero for the hurricane. It was slow going.
“The traffic is just horrendous,” said Rick Prindiville of Hollywood, Fla, who was heading to Atlanta to stay with relatives. “We left 10 o’clock Thursday morning and we are still not there.”
