Group shows up to Homestead Borough meeting to voice complaints against police chief, officer

HOMESTEAD, Pa. — A crowd showed up to Tuesday’s Homestead Borough Council meeting to voice complaints about the police chief and an officer.

“I almost feel like they’re waiting for Black trauma and Black death and then be like, ‘Oh we’ll do something now,’” said Fawn Walker Montgomery with Take Action Mon Valley. “The focus is on what the officers have done to put themselves in this situation.”

Her group and others want Homestead Police Chief Jeff Desimone and another officer fired. Desimone was caught on camera in August yelling at a pregnant woman waiting in the Giant Eagle Pharmacy drive-thru. He was suspended for three days after the incident.

Another video showed the other Homestead officer detaining a 14-year-old girl. The girl’s mother claimed the officer cursed at her daughter, tackled her and twisted her arms while he handcuffed her because she wasn’t following his commands.

Councilmembers said they are reviewing all of the complaints and videos, but can’t publicly comment because these are personnel matters.
