Landslide creating more concern for neighborhood after 3 homes condemned

NORTH STRABANE TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A landslide that forced three homes to be condemned in North Strabane Township is causing more concern for residents of the Majestic Hills neighborhood.

The June slide already forced the closure of a road at the bottom of the hill, but as of Thursday night, restrictions were put in place on a road at the top of the hill.

Oakwood Lane is reduced to one lane after emergency management crews set up cones and lights.

Meanwhile, Forest Lane Drive remains closed.

For some residents, Oakwood Lane is the only way in and out of the neighborhood.

Officials told Channel 11 they don’t expect the road to collapse but they’re being cautious.

“It did move significantly more overnight, so that's what we're here now doing, just making sure that the slide does not affect the roadway for residents to get in and out of the plan,” Public Works Director Tom Lovell said.

The homes condemned will be demolished, but there has not been a decision on when demolition will begin.

Crews are working to clear the dirt off the road at the bottom of the slide.
