Local community rallying to save beloved bowling alley during pandemic

PLUM, Pa. — An entire community is coming together to save a longtime, beloved bowling alley.

Nesbit’s Lanes, located in the heart of Plum Borough, is a local treasure. It has been known to give back to the community and has been family-owned for decades.

“Without this bowling alley as a central hub of the community, there’s really no other place for families to go to,” said Doug Allen, a longtime bowler.

People of all ages come there to bowl, including the Gateway High School bowling team.

Allen said he has a great relationship with the owner, who wasn’t expecting everyone to help out the way they have. He and a friend started a GoFundMe page for Nesbit’s, asking for donations because the bowling alley has had a hard time staying afloat.

In the few days the fundraiser has been active, Allen said the community helped raise nearly $125,000.

The pastor of a church in Plum shared her gratitude for how generous the owner of Nesbit’s Lanes has been. She asked her congregates to help save the business.

A similar post came from John Anthony’s Restaurant in Plum. The owner is organizing a dine-out, and baskets are now being donated to auction off for Nesbit’s.
