Man’s excuse didn’t impress TSA when he was stopped with gun at PIT airport

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A loaded gun was found in a man’s jacket pocket Tuesday at Pittsburgh International Airport, according to the Transportation Security Administration.

The man, of Mars, put his jacket in a checkpoint bin and the gun was spotted on an X-ray machine monitor, officials said. He said he forgot he had the gun with him.

“’I forgot’ is the most common excuse that TSA hears when someone is caught with a gun at the airport checkpoint, but that’s never a good excuse for bringing a loaded gun to the airport checkpoint,” a TSA news release said.

The gun was a .380 caliber handgun. It was loaded with five bullets, including one in the chamber, officials said.

Allegheny County police were contacted by the TSA because of the incident. They confiscated the gun and detained the man for questioning before releasing him, officials said.

So far in 2020, five guns have been caught at the Pittsburgh International Airport checkpoint, according to the TSA.
