Medic goes into cardiac arrest while rescuing cyclist who fell down hillside in Frick Park

PITTSBURGH — A Pittsburgh medic went into cardiac arrest while attempting to rescue a cyclist who had fallen down a hillside Wednesday night.

According to investigators, the man crashed his bike into a tree and fell down the hillside in Nine Mile Run Hollow around 6 p.m.

The wooded area where the accident happened is near Commercial Street in Frick Park.

Police said the cyclist – who was not identified – was found and lifted from the hillside in a basket. He was taken to UPMC Presbyterian in critical condition.

During the rescue, officials said one of the medics went into cardiac arrest. That person was resuscitated on scene and taken to a local hospital in stable condition.
