CARRICK, Pa. — New surveillance cameras are watching more locations across Allegheny County to prevent crime.
Many of the 230 cameras installed by the district attorney's office are in some of the busiest intersections in Allegheny County.
It’s the first step in helping deter crime even for communities several miles away.
Police are using surveillance footage to track down a man suspected in an armed robbery of a Pizza Hut in Carrick earlier this week.

"It happens to be Carrick that we're speaking of, but I think it would be a huge plus in any community," State Rep. Harry Readshaw, D-Pa., of Carrick said.
Readshaw has met with the district attorney to discuss the new security cameras, which sit at the corner of Brownsville Road and Route 51, a little more than 2 miles from where that armed robbery took place.
He believes they could act as a deterrent and he's hoping the surveillance camera program will expand further down Brownsville Road into Carrick sooner rather than later.
"It didn't happen overnight and we're not going to fix it overnight,” Readshaw said. “But I think it will be a distinct advantage if we have them."
Readshaw wants to see what happens at the intersection first before making any major changes, but it's a move some are ready to embrace.
These camera systems will be monitored and maintained by the district attorney's office.
Right now, district attorney Stephen Zappala has more than 200 surveillance cameras set up countywide.
