Non-profit Pittsburgh Good Deeds raising money for people struggling during pandemic

PITTSBURGH — It’s a beautiful day in Lawrenceville.

Starting on Feb. 20 at Redfishbowl Studios, a new exhibit, Good Deeds, will go on display.

“I realized artists are really struggling right now, too,” said John Potter, creator of the nonprofit Pittsburgh Good Deeds.

Over the last 12 months, Potter has raised more than $100,000, which he then gave out as “stimulus checks.”

Restaurant employees currently out of work benefited from this most recent round.

He also commissioned 13 artists to create artwork inspired by children’s TV host Mr. Rogers.

“They’re just so happy to get the work. I think that’s the cool aspect of it too — a real dignity to it that they get to create something with their own hands. I think people are happy to get the work right now,” Potter said.

Natiq Jalil is one of the artists. He spent about two weeks creating his piece.

You can RSVP to the Feb. 20 event, HERE. It runs from 6 - 11 p.m. Walk-Ins are permitted depending on how many people are inside the gallery. The event will also be live streamed on its Facebook and Instagram pages.
