Pennsylvania — Channel 11 got an up close view of PennDOT’s fleet of trucks and tools to combat the changing weather conditions coming our way. Operating with a more than $220 million budget this year, they’ll have 4,700 workers on the road statewide, with 700,000 tons of salt on hand. They will also take additional salt deliveries throughout the winter.

But officials admit this winter season is unlike any before. They’re expecting far fewer drivers on the road due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, coupled with additional travel restrictions.
But that doesn’t mean you should let your guard down.
″We are expecting less people on the road due to Covid throughout the winter season, whether it’s just because they are not traveling for social distancing reasons or they’re teleworking. But regardless please slow down be safe and avoid aggressive driving,” said Yasmeen Manyisha, PennDOT spokeswoman. “We’re seeing a lot of aggressive driving this time of year because there are less vehicles.”
