Pitcairn police cracking down on groups of teens, kids loitering on streets

PITCAIRN, Pa. — Following numerous calls from residents, the Pitcairn Police Department is cracking down on large groups of kids and teens loitering along neighborhood streets.

Neighbors say over the past two months, the groups have often gathered around Agatha, Robinson and Sixth Streets, sometimes trespassing on peoples’ property, yelling profanity, or even fighting.

“The language is awful,” described Anita Kysor, who has lived in Pitcairn since 1988. “The other day I saw two of them fighting each other in the middle of the street and I told them ‘Get off, if a car comes they’ll hit you.’”

Kysor says she’s never seen behavior like this before and fears it’ll only get worse.

“As soon as the weather gets warm, they come out like rats,” she said.

That’s exactly what her neighbor Dan McMullen is afraid of.

“When the weather changes it’ll probably be a little different,” he said.  “I won’t be able to sit on my porch and just enjoy the evening. You know, that kind of thing.”

Neighbors describe the group as 15 to 20 people ranging in age from around seven to 17.

Police say they’re taking peoples’ complaints seriously and are starting to issue citations to groups.

Kysor says she’s grateful someone is correcting their behavior.

“The parents don’t teach them anything,” she said. “They just let these kids run free and do whatever they want to do.”
