From Pittsburgh to Las Vegas: Woman tracks down clues to win $9K in nationwide treasure hunt

PITTSBURGH — A woman won $9,000 by solving part of a nationwide treasure hunt.

Beth Hovanec decoded the clues left in a chapter of the book “The Great U.S. Treasure Hunt.”

The clues instructed her to find the letter “Z” under a park bench in North Las Vegas.

The only problem was Hovanec was at home in Clinton, Pennsylvania. So she asked a friend who lived in Vegas to swing by the park.

Sure enough, her friend found the hidden item.

They contacted the author of the book. And now, they’re getting a check for $10,000.

Hovanec will get $9,000 for solving the chapter, while her friend gets $1,000 for finding the item.

“There’s still three more unsolved chapters, so anybody that’s out there that might want to try to get $10,000. There’s $30,000 out there available,” said Hovanec.

Hovanec said there’s a treasure hidden in each time zone, so there could be one right here in Pennsylvania.
