PITTSBURGH — Several Pittsburgh police officers are now being investigated after breaking up a brawl at a South Side restaurant.
A video being circulated on social media shows several people fighting inside the Cambod-Ican Kitchen restaurant on East Carson Street. The video shows several officers arrive. One grabs a person and pulls them back from the fight, causing them to land on their back. Several other officers jump into the fray and start working to separate the combatants. At several points in the video, you can see officers throwing punches.
“There were at least eight to 10 combatants, mostly over here in the front which blocked the escape route for anyone else that did not want to be involved in that melee,” explained General Manager Daniel McSwiggen. “Our restaurant is not Madison Square Garden. It’s a restaurant, our family’s restaurant. We don’t need that.”
A spokesperson for the city of Pittsburgh said the Bureau of Public Safety has been made aware of that video and several others, and that the Office of Municipal Investigations was also getting involved. OMI investigates claims of misconduct against officers.
McSiggen said that he has no complaints with the Pittsburgh Police and believed that police acted appropriately. However, that’s not the case for the people who came into the restaurant.
“You bring that inside our restaurant, whatever we do to you, whatever the police do to you, you had it coming. Solution…don’t bring that stuff in here.”
The restaurant said that they are adding additional security cameras and even considering a takeout window on the side of the building so people wont have to come inside for late night orders
