Pittsburgh residents killed in crash on Route 28 near Kittanning Monday morning

KITTANNING, Pa. — A man and woman from Pittsburgh were killed early Monday morning in a crash along Route 28 near Kittanning.

According to the Armstrong County coroner, Michael Gargett, 44, and Mara Reilly, 46, were killed in the crash at around 8:30 a.m.

Investigators said they were driving north on Route 28 when they swerved to miss a car on the shoulder of the highway. They subsequently lost control and rear ended a box truck that was also stopped on the shoulder.

First responders pronounced them dead at the scene.

Officials said both Gargett and Reilly were wearing seat belts.

Weather and speed are considered to be factors in the crash.
