Pittsburgh residents stress eviction from homes after federal judge ruling

PITTSBURGH — A federal judge struck down the national moratorium on evictions on Wednesday.

According to the Associated Press, the eviction ban, initially put in place last year, protects renters from concern that having families lose their homes and move into shelters or share crowded conditions with relatives or friends during the pandemic would further spread the highly contagious virus.

This news is worrisome for countless families in Pittsburgh who are struggling to keep a roof over their heads and pay rent when it’s due. There are still so many uncertainties about what this could mean locally.

While it’s not clear what the immediate impact of the ruling will be, the reaction from those trying to make ends meet was almost instant.

“Nobody should be evicted during a pandemic. It’s hard out there. It’s going to be hard for a long time,” said community member Kris Hoskins.
