When will Pennsylvania reach the goal of vaccinating 70 percent of the population?

PENNSYLVANIA — In order for Pennsylvania residents to toss their masks as we head into the summer, at least 70 percent of people have to be vaccinated against Covid-19.

With just 42 percent of residents fully vaccinated as of this week -- and just over 50 percent who have received their first dose -- Gov. Tom Wolf said the numbers needed to cancel the mask mandate are still far off.

Not included in the number of vaccinated Pennsylvania residents are teens who are under 18, who were just made vaccine eligible in April.

According to a state spokesperson, the CDC does not track vaccines for those under the age of 18. There also isn’t local data on people who crossed state lines to get a vaccine, but the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention does track that information.

Wolf announced he would terminate Covid-19 restrictions on Memorial Day -- except for the mask mandate.

“I think the big thing is all the progress we are making on the vaccines,” Wolf said. “All of us are becoming more confident that we have a good path that we didn’t have 16 months ago.”
