Man towing U-Haul trailer leads police on high speed chase

PHILAELPHIA (AP) — Two people are facing murder charges in the slaying of a man whose dismembered remains were found in a U-Haul truck and trash containers in Philadelphia last month, police said Monday.

Taray Herring, 47, of Philadelphia and Jeanette Pace, 42, of Ventnor, New Jersey, face charges of murder, possessing an instrument of crime and conspiracy in the death of 70-year-old Peter Gerold, police said. Both defendants are currently incarcerated.

Police said DNA results on Monday confirmed that items taken from the victim’s home matched samples from the recovered body parts.

On Feb. 11, officers responding to a burglary in progress call involving a U-Haul truck with Arizona license plates stopped the vehicle in northeast Philadelphia and found a human torso. Trash bags with human remains were recovered from trash containers some distance away. Two men, age 43 and 47, were taken in for questioning

Herring was charged earlier with burglary, abuse of a corpse and evidence-tampering and Pace was charged earlier with burglary and related offenses. The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that attorneys for both declined comment on those charges; messages were left for both Monday seeking comment on the new charges.
