Police: man plows rental car into jewelry store, steals items before running off on foot

MONROEVILLE, Pa. — The Monroeville police chief was left scratching his head at the behavior of the person responsible for plowing a rental car into a jewelry store, stealing several items and then running off.

Police said around 3:15 a.m. Monday, someone smashed into the Gold Rush store on William Penn Highway in Monroeville. The suspect then rummaged around in the store for two minutes, pocketing several items. Investigators said they believe whoever did it is a local but they aren’t sure if the rental car was stolen or not.

Detectives are poring through surveillance video right now from different places around the area to see if the car shows up. They have pictures of the stolen items and they’re waiting for the store to determine how much the items were worth.
