Rain and snow expected to move in; Winter Weather Advisory will go into effect for parts of area early Tuesday

A strong weather system will move through our area over the next few days. You’ll need your umbrella and then your snow boots.

Rain will develop overnight tonight and continue into Monday morning making for a soggy morning commute. The rain could be heavy at times, especially during the first half of the day. Temperatures will be near 40 degrees Monday morning and climb to the mid-40s during the day.

There may be a brief period where the rain is not as widespread, particularly in the late afternoon as the low pressure pulls away. However, moisture will wrap around the back side of the system and rain will fill back into the area as we go into evening. Rain will changeover to snow, mainly after 7 p.m. and into Monday night.

A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for the counties in purple below. It will go into effect at 1 a.m. Tuesday and will last until 7 a.m. Wednesday.

Snow will fall overnight and through the day Tuesday. Use caution if you’re traveling early Tuesday as there could be some icy spots. Air temperatures will be cooling below freezing and any moisture or snow on the road will make it slick. Along with the snow, the wind will be strong and could lead to blowing snow and reduced visibility with wind gusts around 30 mph.
