PITTSBURGH — When Cliff Forrest first saw the old boiler house that dates to 1883 at the former Pittsburgh Glass Works plant in Creighton, he had an inspiration for a new business line at his Pittsburgh Brewing Co. that could soon make for double-barrel toasts around the region.
“It’s a beautiful building,” said Forrest, whose company announced in February it was working to convert the former PPG facility along the Allegheny River into a new brewery to bring the making of Iron City Beer in house again for the first time in more than a decade.
In keeping with the historic building, Forrest and his crew with Pittsburgh Brewing Co. is now launching Iron City Distilling, a new venture to serve as a companion operation at the new brewery and its 40-acre site, for which the larger development plan is expected to include a restaurant, an outdoor event venue, a beer museum and a marina.
