Slaying victim's mother speaks out against killer's parole

Zach Sheridan was shot dead outside an Oakland restaurant in 2013, and his killer was found guilty of manslaughter and sentenced to 5 to 15 years.

However, that man is now up for parole  and Sheridan’s family says he should serve the full 15.

Dee Sheridan, the victim’s mother, said she was heartbroken over what she calls a “light sentence” and cannot believe Isiah Smith, who shot and killed the victim, is already up for parole next month.

“He’s trying to get out and we’re going to stop it,” Sheridan said.

Sheridan’s mission is to collect as many letters as possible with the hope that the judge will see how much her son meant to so many people – and decide to keep Smith in prison for the remainder of his term.

Sheridan said they are “Zach’s community,” and that it is “all of us for Zach.” The letters will be collected over the next few weeks, she said, as she waits to hear which day in April the parole hearing will be.
