A state lawmaker's father died in a Squirrel Hill nursing home after his head was caught between the side rails on his bed and the mattress, according to a state investigation.
Robert Frankel, 89, was found dead Sept. 17 in his room at Charles Morris Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. His son is Rep. Dan Frankel, D-Squirrel Hill.

His death was ruled an accident by the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office, which said at the time that the elder Frankel's neck had been "compressed."
WPXI news partner TribLive reported that the investigation by the state Health Department learned that the nursing home dropped all the side rails in the facility immediately after Frankel's death.
