HARRISBURG, Pa. — Pennsylvania State Rep. John Maher, of Upper St. Clair, is facing DUI charges stemming from an incident near Harrisburg following a session day in the Capitol.
The charges were filed Monday in East Pennsboro Township, Cumberland County, according to a court docket, which indicated that Maher’s blood alcohol level at the time of the June 13 incident was at least 0.16. The legal limit in Pennsylvania is 0.08.
“I should not have been driving. It was a bad decision to drive the two miles from downtown to where I was staying. It will never happen again,” Maher, 58, said in a statement.

Maher, a Republican, has held the seat since 1997. He chairs the Environmental Resources and Energy Committee and ran unsuccessfully for state auditor general in 2012.
