State says federal unemployment aid could be delayed for weeks

Millions of Americans are struggling daily as the pandemic continues to drag out. And we are feeling those effects directly in PA.

“Our country has suffered so much,” Gary Kinnen told Channel 11.

Lawmakers say this gap in time will now delay the unemployment payment process. The state says federal jobless aid and assistance could be delayed for weeks.

“Delays in getting the federal CARES Act extension signed into law has pushed back the arrival of this guidance and this might mean there’s a few weeks until we can issue payments to claimants again for these programs,” Acting Secretary for the Department of Labor & Industry Jennifer Berrier said.

This directly impacts more than 500,000 unemployed workers who received funding through the Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Assistance and Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation programs.

Unemployed eligible workers are being encouraged to apply for other benefits like the following:

-Health Insurance through Pennie Lifeline

-Medicaid Assistance

-Meals on Wheels

-And SNAP
