A total of 11 animals from Allegheny County have tested positive for rabies in 2020: five (5) raccoons, three (3) bats, two (2) cats, and one (1) groundhog.

Rabies is a virus transmitted by an animal bite or scratch. It is almost always fatal when exposures are left untreated. Any individual who is bitten, scratched or otherwise exposed to saliva from an animal should immediately cleanse the contact area with soap and water, seek emergency medical treatment and call ACHD (412-687-2243) to report the incident.
