USW argues against insurance changes for Alcoa retirees

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh-based United Steelworkers announced that it sought a preliminary injunction in a lawsuit to prevent Alcoa Corp. from changing its health insurance benefits of workers who retired before June 1, 1993, according to a news release.

Alcoa announced to its employees earlier in 2021 that it would terminate their coverage on Dec. 31, 2020, and replace it with private Medicare exchange program and Health Reimbursement Arrangement, according to the release.
