WATCH: Organ recipient, his donor meet for first time

Channel 11 was there as an organ recipient and his donor met for the first time on Monday.

Rich Dzugan had a live-donor liver transplant last week at UPMC Montefiore.

He said six weeks ago doctors were talking about just making him comfortable, but two weeks after that, his donor came along.

“Amazing. I didn’t think I’d feel this well this quick. It’s just it’s a miracle,” Dzugan said.

“There’s a reason for it all. I’ve felt that from the beginning. When I first learned I could do this, I never looked back,” said Marina Moses, Dzugan’s organ donor.

Dzugan said he’s now focused on getting his strength back.

This donation was a milestone. It was the 500th living-donor liver transplant at UPMC.
