Worker shortage strikes another Pittsburgh restaurant

PITTSBURGH — As many businesses in Pittsburgh start to return to normal, they are facing a big challenge.

Redbeard’s Sports Bar & Grill is having trouble finding employees and now has limited hours.

“Ever since we come back, it’s been very tough to staff our full restaurant. We have limited hours. We used to open seven days a week,” explained owner Len Semplice.

According to a U.S. Labor Department report, U.S. employers posted a record number of available jobs in March. However, the rate of new hires only slightly increased.

“A lot of people in the industry went to other professions. And the main thing, I think, is the free money. The $300 a week extra in unemployment, I think that has a lot to do with it,” Semplice stated. “We need the people. We got the hours. I got the money. I just need the people that want to work.”
