Working from home? Company says demand rising to fill remote jobs

PITTSBURGH — Nearly 40% of Americans are working from home, and right here in Pittsburgh, interest in working remotely has spiked.

“We’re seeing the remote worker population is about 4.9%, which is higher than the national average,” Brie Reynolds with FlexJobs said.

Reynolds said the company provides freelance job listings for remote and flexible positions. Just last month, the company saw a 10% increase in remote jobs.

“In Pittsburgh specifically, computer and IT is the number one job category. Project management, sales, healthcare, education and training are some of the other big fields,” Reynolds said.

FlexJobs is helping Pittsburghers get in contact with several companies that are now committing to remote work for the long term, including national companies. The listings include jobs for Adobe, Amazon, Facebook, Capital One and more.

“We see a lot of people who either have been laid off or furloughed or who are just really nervous about that happening and they know remote work is probably the way to go right now,” Reynolds said.
